A Cartoner or Cartoning Machine, is a packaging machine that forms cartons: erect, close, folded, side seamed and sealed cartons.

Its operation includes pick up a flat carton (known as a blank), erect it into a rectangular shape, push the product into the carton (or fill it through a vertical flow), and close the carton via end flaps or a fold-over lid. Machines can be semi-automatic or fully automatic.

Cartoning machines can be divided into two types :

1. Horizontal Cartoning machines – Product feeding from side

2. Vertical Cartoning machines – Product feeding from top
